Seeing mattwelli is sending out kits for review to DUP and helikiwi once they are done reviewing them they will be given away to some lucky user of this forum.

What do I have to do to win the first one....

Well tell us about your funniest crash, preferably backed up with photo or video evidence. We will set a poll up and the funnest one will win the first kit.

Not that I'm probably eligible but once I flew my hobbyzone firebird (my first rc plane) into the back of my brothers head! Knocked him over, he crashed his one, and I fell over laughing.

me too but anyway I havnt had many crashes but once my plane was just pulling away from a very very big bunch of pine tress and it roll it over to pull up and the wing hit a branch sticking out a bit and cartwheel through the air to the ground. No dmage was done! but if my plane was 1 meter closer it would of been smashed for sure and mabey I wouldnt be getting my radio gear back too!

Now which crash story too choose ....

When I was learning to fly heli's, I started to with a Esky CP2. I was feeling pretty cocky and thinking I had mastered this heli shizzle, after landing numerous landings on a kick board floating in a pool..

So I thought "Lets step it up!" and started doing touch and goes on the roof of my car, with me standing behind the car. This was great fun. I could take off, do a circuit of the front yard and land back of on the roof of my car! "sheet I am good!" I called my flatmate over to come and have a look at my new found heli greatness. Did my touch and go and a circuit, and landed back on the roof.. but the heli started to slide down the rear window... Oh Oh.. So i gave it full noise on the gas stick, and the chopper came right at me standing behind the car, totally horizontal and at max collective. I threw the transmitter and dropped flat on my face on the driveway, the heli wizzing over my head and into the hedge behind me. Transmitter smashed, heli smashed, grazed arms, flatmate thought it was the funniest thing he ever saw... Bastard was crying he was laughing so hard.

Well, I’m not known for crashing, so I haven’t got much material, but there was this one time with my Skyhawk. Now, to most right thinking people this would not really be that funny, but we are dealing with RC people so the normal rules don’t apply. Some of my so called flying buddies thought this was the funniest thing they had seen in a long time. Once they got up off the ground, dried their eyes and said how sorry they were for me I felt a bit better.
Anyway, I was flying my Skyhawk down at the park doing a video shoot. I had moved from my usual park as there were a couple of magpies there who were always scene stealers whenever I tried to do a vid. I was bringing my Skyhawk in for a landing and overshot the landing ground - normally I would have just bitten the bullet and landed long as I was getting low on juice. But, pride comes before a fall and I wanted to get a landing at my feet for the vid.
So went around again and a couple of birds appeared out of nowhere and proceeded to attack the Skyhawk. I looked at them for a second and the Skyhawk (which is a bit twitchy at slow speeds) rolled over and dove for the ground, just managed to pull her out with full throttle and full up elevator and it came whistling overhead whereupon I lost orientation on it and it rolled over again. Didn’t get off so lucky this time as it was too low and the fan takes a couple of seconds to spool up. Big splat. On the positive side, got it all on vid - copy below. Note the two batteries exiting the fuse and taking the canopy with them in the slo-mo shot.
Despite the unfortunate sound at the end of the vid I do not get off on crashing planes.
Had it all back together again in two nights work.

Hehehe good vid KiwiKid. A bird attacked my plane today But I didn't lose control It wasn't like that actaully, it was following it for a few seconds trying not to become prey. It must have thought it was a predator, would have looked great on film....

How do you make yourself a headcam?

Thanks stripy, head cams can be just a simple strap on like the one below or more complex (do a Google picture search) commercial affairs. Either way they can produce quite good vids as you know where your plane is heading and can anticipate directional changes whereas someone else filming is always playing catch up. The trick is getting your view finder centred so that you tape what you are looking at. Some people make a sort of square eyepiece out of wire, attached to the helmet, that they then get centred on what the camera is recording.

Thanks Mathew, the kit is the GWS TA-4J that I converted to an RNZAF TA-4K. You can get the bare bodies with a fan unit (rubbish) from RC Bandit and WattsUp Hobbies. A build blog on mine is here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=966521

Rather glad I put the extra reinforcing and fibreglassing into it now.

A vid of some rather more successful flying is here:
