T4RC : nop
RCMR : The DLE20 weighs about the same as a Saito 125 -- so its nice and light -- not like those HK 26cc engines
RCMR : Its also got a rear reed-valve induction so its got good power. Those side-port gasers are crap
RCMR : Well Im off to hit the hay. Nite nite!
SargeNZ : evening jacko

You can pick them up from Johns hobby world an e bay store for the same price as Hobby King sold them and on most he has free postage world wide which will save you some pennys as well. Have brought a couple from him, arrived in under a week.

Until horizon shut that down too. If it wasnt in China it'd be called price fixing...

RCMR - Have you got anyway to test latency in your 2.4Ghz shootout. Seems that the 14ms Hitec advertise is more like 40ms in real life, but in saying that ive never seen any real life numbers for the other 2.4Ghz systems.

Spektrum ar6000 rx has been put into cannot trust it anymore, luckly I done a range check be for putting plane in the air.
It keeps turning it self on and off,at first I thought it was to do with elevon mixing, but after testing with a range of only 15metres it cuts in and out,so thats it for that rx.
Lasted about 12months and has had a hard time.

Quote [I've updated the chart with the numbers for the new Spektrum DX7. This radio kicks butt! It is as fast as the Stylus, 12Z, and 14MZ! - John]

I've a read thru yr link Jacko, +1 for DX7. :).

Latency is only one part of it, the DX7SE is quick, but the programming is garbage the Rx's are too expensive for what they are. Unless your a 3D heli pro, I doubt you would notice the latency difference at all. Note that the Hitec is faster than JR 9303 and AR9000 which is weird. Futaba is faster than even the DX7SE.

Not too concerned about latency, what I want is good programming options, the best RF link possible, and well priced recievers

In a module-based system, the latency of the RF link will almost always be around 20mS because the transmitter module usually acquires an entire frame (20mS) before it starts sending the data. There may be an additional mS or two associated with the decoding at the other end.

Because this is pretty much a fixed latency it makes little difference to the average pilot's perception when flying.

What does make a difference is when the latency is highly variable -- that leads to the model feeling less "locked in" because the time from moving a stick to getting a reaction at the servo may vary randomly -- thus making it impossible for the brain to automatically compensate for it.

If you've been using DSP or PCM based receivers on 35-72MHz, you'll find that a module-based 2.4 system is *much* more responsive. That's because some of the DSP-FM systems actually buffer two frames of data, giving you 40mS of latency. If you've been flying plain FM gear you'll probably notice no change.

Guys here who've gone from the Corona DSP receivers to 2.4 have noticed the difference. Guys going from straight FM to 2.4 haven't.

The more critical latencies appear to be associated with the actual transmitters themselves and the way the mixing is implemented.

Some (such as the Futaba 9C) have *awful* latency introduced as a side-effect of a wimpy processor and lack-lustre firmware. If you hook a 9C up to do dual-elevator servos (on two separate channels) you can actually see that one moves before the other!

This also adversely affects CCPM heli-setups.

Modern radios are *much* better than older ones in this regard.

Going full native 2.4GHz has the potential to slash latency times even more because they no longer rely on the standard 20mS PPM frame and each channel can be sent immediately, rather than waiting for the entire frame of data to be produced/acquired.

Some say they can feel the improvement and I believe them but, for regular sport flying, I don't think it's that important.

After all, how many times did you hear anyone (even top competition fliers) saying "gosh darn it, this RC system has too much latency" before 2.4GHz came along?

Ahhh I see, totally agree about the programable wise on DX7. It's good enough for my heli thou. That's the reason I've always set my plane on my jr coz they have more option and easier to access to any info.

http://getyourwebsitehere.com/jswb/rttest01.html Test your personal latency And then think if that 30 ms is really "feelable" in flight!

My quickest was 179, average of 207.. I fluffed #3
