General news. : A bit of downtime
Posted by kneedrag on 2010/3/21 8:52:20 (183 reads)

Our server hosting provider migrated out server last night due to maintenance. While this should have been a simple move our web server requires a password for some SSL certs on it to be manually entered on startup.

I was sleeping as most sane people this side of the world do and came in to find the site down. Logged in typed in the long password and website is back up sorry for the down time.

Just cleaning up around here you may notice a few layout changes over the next few days just let me know if they are good or bad.

Also the FAQ module is playing up so I am going to backup its data remove it and reinstall hopefully not losing any FAQ. Don't feel like having to retype them again.

General news. : Stuff happens

Right we made it to over 10000 posts before we had our first spammer. I really hate spam and I am quite ruthless when it comes to dealing with spammers. However I can't be everywhere all the time. So I have had to ask for volunteers to be "moderators".

I have tried to stay away from the moderator type setup as long as possible as I feel freedom of speech is the most important thing this forum has. Unbiased views and heated debate at times but everyone can have there say.

The moderators have been given the following guidelines :

1- Do not moderate allow freedom of speech and try encourage diplomacy in heated arguments.

2- If there is spam or illegal content being posted they have the power to move that thread into a hidden area on the forum (removing it from your view and the public) allowing me to get all the information I need to ban/warn the offenders etc.

3- If in doubt call me first, they have been given my mobile number.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions on how to deal with spammers etc please feel free to contact me.

No hiring a hitman is not the correct option. Yes it is tempting.

So I would like to thank the three volunteers for standing up, Speedfreak, Willzilla and matwelli. May the ham be with you.
